You are right while you are wrong

I own 3D printers modified by me (the kits in original were horrible) and I create 3d priting technology and files to be 3D printed. My wife's Daiathsu has 3D parts reverse engineered and printed by me for example, my Renault the same, same for my Mitsubishy Canter Fuso van.

Here is my take, you are right while you are wrong.

Yes being able to make your replacement is great, but why... why stop at this alone?

So I am creating things that never existed before me inventing them, maintly because I need them, sometimes because I am paid by a client to do so, but once done that, the intelectual property is mine and nobody can sue me, and I release them Open Source on the internet to anybody to can print them, I sell the printable files, you buy, download it, pass it in the slicer of your choice with your settings and print it, than use it.

Some people argue that this is the future of economy, well... I live in the future now. I make it happen now.

So why buy a Honda, Apple, Merc etc in the first place, when you can create or buy the technology to make your own airplane, helicopter, car, toaster, phone, chair, bike, wind surf, whatever you dream? And I designed already all of the above and printing some, others are awayting for larger printers to be made by me, so if I can, anybody can.

Why getting stuck with the instant gratification mentality of "I want it now, I buy it now, even if I don't have the means, I go for a loan and buy it"?

when is cheaper to print it, any model you see fit, and buy only the parts not worht acquiering the tecnology to make them because it would not make sense, like the engine, the electronics, tires and high pressure elements. Although right now I am working on 3D printers that can print with metals, so in the near future even the engines would be at hand to print in your kitchen. Maybe soon even batteries that actually work as energy storage can be 3D printed.

The world is changing, it is heading at a rapid peace towards distributed manufacturing at individual levels, and the giants of trade and production, the banks and the governments are scared the shit out of them, because they used to thrive on our incapacity to make our own things; hence we needed a job to make us some money so we can prove them we can pay taxes and can repay a debt so they give us a loan to buy what we needed.

It's over, we can make it in the kitchen now (I do) so we don't really need that job as much as we did (some things I still have to buy, about 30% of what I would be buying without using this technology) that has harsh repercussion on their economic style, prison like, slavery by economics, where money, bank accounts and credit cards were our chains, towards not needing their economy as much, for now, maybe at all in a few decades.

So yes they are crushing anybody they can to keep the status quo, but can they crush the whole planet?

I doubt that.
